B.Literature Review
There have been various research efforts in the domain
of MDA; Bohringer [1] provided a general overview of
micro -assembly.Kasaya [6] demonstrated an
automated assembly operation using visual and force

control; Keller [7] developed Hexsil micro-grippers that
were constructed from poly-silicon that utilize
integrated actuators and strain gauges as force sensors.
Zhou [14] developed micro-gripper and micro-gripping
strategies using optical beam deflection techniques.
Carrozza et al.[3] manufactured a LIGA micro-gripper
with integrated semiconductor strain gauges.Nelson et
al.[9] described the use of visual feedback in assembly
processes.Other efforts have outlined use of VR based
simulation [2,8]; visual servoing [9] and force sensing
approaches [5,11],none of the past research efforts
have sought to design a comprehensive INBM
framework for MDA.Such a framework is necessary
for several reasons:(1) the field of micro assembly is an
emerging area of importance (2) it is expensive to
develop separate cells or factories which can assemble a
variety of components.For these reasons,there is a
need to share distributed resources in an agile manner
using IT resources within the context of an INBM
perspective.
