1.Beijing is bigger than any other city
为什么other不能丢?
2.The winning car reached a speed of forty miles an hour--much faster than any of its rivals.
为什么of可以去掉变成much faster than any rival.
我的问题有点乱，意思就是为什么：
any other city不能变成any city
而 any of its rivals可以变成any rival

先回答other的问题
因为自己不可以和自己比,所以必须在有自己的范围前加上other

any of its rivals 后面复数对吧.就是说这么多竞争者中的一个和他比
记住：一个只能和一个比,不可以和很多比.比如一个学生不可以和一个班的学生比
any rival是任何一个对手的意思.当然可以
还有不理解么
再问：请问这俩句话能不能都用anyone else代替变成：Beijing is bigger than anyone else. much faster than anyone else.
再答：不行。anyone指人有可能会有指人的情况可以用。但是一般还是不会用这种的。因为总会有个范围。要么就是世界冠军这种把···呵呵
