Free TV for Indians
THE government of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu said last week that it would give free colour television sets to tens of thousands of poor people.
New state chief minister M Karunanidhi said the 14-inch (35-cm) TV sets would be sent out from mid-September to people living below the poverty line.
The 83-year-old leader made the promise in the run-up (竞选过程) to local elections this month.He also promised rice at 2 rupees (about 0.32 yuan) per kilogram for the poor.
