The first time I came to China,I wondered about this.In the middle of the day people seemed to be sleeping everywhere on lorries ,on benches,in offices and so forth.
At Bejing University a German told me that the reason for this was that all over China they use gourmet powder in their food.He said that this gourmet powder would give you higher blood pressure about one hour after you have eaten,and you would become quite sleepy.He also said that gourmet powder was forbidden in some European countries.
Personally I also feel this tiredness after having eaten here in China.
If this is scientifically true,the consequences for the Chinese nation are enormous.One billion people perhaps sleep more than necessary.They have to have beds in their offices or travel home to sleep after lunch and then back again for work.
They therefore have to work until 5:00 o'clock and even longer instead of four o'clock,which limits their free time a lot.
